I’m living with ease.
So here it is:
Move with ease. Live with ease. My answer to loving my life just a bit more.
That is not to say, “don’t do anything that is hard”—not at all--but as you challenge yourself to grow, to explore, to dare…do it with ease. And when things are not as you had hoped, screw the critic in your head and be loving.
As you find yourself pushing to force something…back off. If it’s not fitting, not working, causing pain—either psychically or physically, know that stopping is an option.
A seasoned yoga teacher once told my husband, “Don’t do the pose, let the pose do you.” He loved that—it made no sense to me. But now it does. Sometimes, you can push something so hard, it defeats all that it is about.
You know… like exercising to the point of complete exhaustion, going to yoga for tranquility and yet trying to do everything perfectly, creating a beautiful home and not letting anyone sit on the furniture.
I found this over reaching, lately in my painting. I was so over thinking what I should or shouldn’t do that spontaneity and joy were slipping away.
And then it popped up in my yoga. I was trying to be a great—if not perfect-- example for newbies. I was pushing my body without tending to it. I was trying to take care of others in the room, when practicing yoga was supposed to be about becoming more attuned with myself.
And in both cases, relief arrived as I began to approach both my art and yoga with ease. I worked at being less concerned with the outcome and more about process--what I felt, how things unfolded in the moment. I worked to rewire my expectations.
A weight has lifted.
It really works. It works during an argument. It works in crappy traffic. It works when something goes awry. I just take a breath and make a conscious decision that I wish to choose ease. And if ease isn’t working, I can always go another route…
And while I’m on it let me also say a quick something about perfection, because I think a lot of dis-ease comes from this growing sense that we should expect perfection from ourselves.
I have news. Nobody is PERFECT. It isn’t happening.
So if your dis-ease is caused because you are trying to have the perfect family, body, job, relationship or some such pipe dream—wake up. That is a goal doomed for failure. The most you can hope for is to give something your best and go for happiness. And believe me, it’s happier when you can accept something –like yourself—with flaws.
So again, CHOOSE EASE.
No one cares about how perfectly you execute your yoga. What your job title is. How much money you make. If you gain a pound or your house is dusty.
So work hard. Be passionate. Do what you love. And mostly love yourself. Move with ease.
So, I write this blog, not one of my tightest, most well written prose…but then again, I am doing it with ease. Just dare to try it.
Undoubtedly, you will feel more alive. You will be a human being and not a human doing. The lightness in your heart will feel incredible.
Namaste.
